A postcard from J.G. Ballard

On 4th December 1991, Angela Carter received a postcard from her friend J.G. Ballard. On the front was a reproduction of Salvador Dalí’s painting of Mae West, the latter one of Carter’s favourite Hollywood stars. The postcard is now held at The British Library and you can view it online for yourself here. Ballard writes to congratulate Carter on the success of her Channel 4 documentary The Holy Family Album, and on the publication of her final novel Wise Children. In reference to the former, Ballard says that “Breton + Ernst would have been proud of you”, whilst he describes the latter as “a stunningly clever book”.
