Angela Carter lived in Bristol during the 1960s and began her literary career there, writing a number of novels, essays and poetry. Last year, Dr Stephen Hunt published a detailed study of Carter’s time in Bristol and the wider counterculture of this period, entitled Angela Carter’s ‘Provincial Bohemia’: The counterculture in 1960s and 1970s Bristol and Bath and published by Bristol Radical History. More recently, Tom Brothwell met with Dr Hunt to discuss his work on Angela Carter and the counterculture of the 60s and 70s in the West Country for the Bristol History Podcast.
