On the 18th February 2017, Cardiff-based artist and illustrator Layla Holzer ran two puppetry workshops at the Royal West of England Academy (RWA) in Bristol, as part of the Strange Worlds: The Vision of Angela Carter exhibition. The workshops, one for adults and one for children, gave participants the opportunity to both make and then perform shadow puppets. Holzer then filmed each show and has since edited and uploaded them to her Vimeo page. The Children’s workshop focused on taking inspiration from Carter’s 1984 novel Nights at the Circus, whilst the adult’s workshop produced a number of different shows, including adaptations of ‘The Bloody Chamber’, ‘The Tiger’s Bride’, and ‘The Company of Wolves’.
